Product Description The PA11HON Honda / Acura iPod interface provides direct connection for an iPod plus an optional audio source such as satellite radio, DVD, or video game system. Both the iPod and the additional audio source can be selected from the factory radioâ?TMs front panel. The interface adapter connects the iPod to your factory Honda or Acura radio as if it were a CD changer, allowing direct selection of iPod playlists through the radioâ?TMs preset (or disc) buttons and is compatible with iPod models featuring the dock connector, including the iPod nano and 5G iPod video.
The PA11 series iPod interfaces have two operating modes available. Playlist Mode uses the controls on the factory radio to provide basic navigation functions including song up/down, playlist up/down, repeat, shuffle, scan, and FF/REW functions. Direct Mode uses the iPod's click wheel to navigate through the iPod's menus and select songs, artists, playlists, etc. and the radio buttons are used only for volume, bass and treble. Both modes still charge the iPod while connected, and stops one hour after the iPod is paused to prevent over-charging.
Note: Display of artist and song title information, track search by artist, song title, album or genre are NOT supported. Only the Playlist and track numbers are displayed.

Works perfectly August 16, 2010 Elrom Unlike those honda aux connectors made by PIE (Precision Interface Electronics), this one has zero hum / clicking sounds! I'm only using the aux in (and not the ipod interface so I can't speak about that.) But the aux in (i.e. rca in) is perfect!
For an aux in it's a little on the expensive side, but otherwise A+!
Easy to install; Usage instructions cryptic July 20, 2010 Barry A. Goldfarb This was very easy to install in my 2001 Honda Odyssey. I found instructions online for installing a 6 disk in-dash CD player and followed them to remove the in-dash radio/CD player. I then just ran the cable through the glove box. It took less than an hour.
However, the operating instructions that came with this unit are obviously written by someone without a good command of the English language. There are apparently two modes of operation, one of which allows for control of the song selection using the CD controls on the in-dash radio. However, the instructions on setting this mode up are so confusing, due to the very bad grammar and awkward language, that I haven't been able to understand how to get it to work.
Other than that, the unit works just fine with my iPhone 3Gs. A dialog box comes up whenever I plug in the iPhone saying that this device is incompatible, but I just click it and it goes away. Using the mode on the PA11-HON that uses the iPhone controls to control the music selection seems to work just fine, and the audio quality seems fine.
Works as expect in 03 Honda Pilot February 16, 2010 Chad Jackson (Xenia, Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I researched various iPod control options for the 03 pilot and this one seemed to provide the most control from the factory radio. My 03 pilot is non-nav and non-dvd. Things of note:
Installation
- Just pop off the plastic surrounding the radio (four clips will pull free with enough tugging) and unscrew the four screws to pull out the radio.
- Be careful not to drop the screws behind the dash. You'll never find them again. I lost three.
- If you unplug the wiring harness to the radio or disconnect the car battery as advised in the instructions be sure to have the anti-theft code handy since this will lock your radio.
- I ran the cable towards the gas pedal and used velcro tape to stick the box to a nice flat section of plastic where it would still be accessible if I wanted to plug in an AV cable or change the dip switches.
- I ran the iPod cable forward through the dash and came out the narrow gap behind the "not and ashtray". I had to unscrew the metal "not an ashtray" track to let the cable fit but once it's through it does not hinder the motion of the "not an ashtray".
- Now that I've done this before I could do it again in less than five minutes but looking for screws and calling Honda for my radio code significantly increased installation time. Hopefully with the guidance above it will not take you very long.
Operation
- The packaging came with a revised instruction sheet that talks about revisions made to accommodate the iPhone and iPod touch. This also alters the functions of the buttons slightly. In my opinion the alterations were all positive or neutral.
- As promised you can select 4-5 predefined play lists (number of playlists available depends on whether you've activated the AUX AV dip switch), switch to AUX AV mode, switch to full iPod control mode (click wheel controls are activated on iPod), and skip tracks forward and backward.
- The only thing on the screen will be track numbers and numbers representing what mode you are in.
- The steering wheel allows you to cycle through sources (radio, CD, iPod, Tape) and to forward to the next track. The volume also still works.
Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. If you are looking for something that will display track names and artist info etc. I recommend buying an aftermarket stereo head unit capable of this function.
Opens Up a World of Possibilities! January 25, 2009 Go Bears (Houston, TX United States) We installed this in our 2006 Pilot and 2008 Ridgeline - and it works great.
In the Ridgeline, we have XM/Sirius but no GPS or DVD - and it works great
In the Pilot, we have GPS and XM/Sirius and it also works great
There are two (slight) bumps in the road that I have experienced:
1. In both cars, when you plug the iPod in the for the first time, it takes a minute to boot up and you can't communicate with it for a matter of seconds (kind of like when you plug it into the computer)
2. On the Pilot (the car with GPS - and I don't know if there's a connection), when you want to play the iPod, you have to turn on XM and then turn on Aux or else you will hear XM as background noise. This one could be due to an installation error, but is easily managed.
Overall, we were thrilled to find this item, and it has really opened up a world of possibilities, as (with the combination of satellite radio and 80G iPods) we can listen to just about anything we want in the car - especially nice to have a whole library of audio books for our 5 year old.
USA SPEC PA11-HON works excellent!!! March 9, 2008 James Magee (Pennsylvania) I purchased one of these for my 2003 Civic Hybrid with some of the gas money saved. I installed it in about 15 minutes and was playing my iPod through the radio controls, just like the specifications say. It is excellent! Random, next track, etc., all from the factory radio controls! When you turn the car off, it stops. When you turn the car back on, it resumes right where it left off. You can tuck it out of sight to avoid temptation, because there is no need to mess with it. It's great to buy a product which performs as well as this from the start. No calls to tech, no returns. A first class product which will give you first class results!
